Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is known for his unique style and techniques. He used bold, directional brushwork to create a sense of movement and vibration in his paintings. His strokes take the viewer on a journey around the painting as they twist, turn, and swirl around the subject. Van Gogh also used dark outlining to accentuate objects, which was likely influenced by Japanese art and woodblock prints. He experimented with the broken brush strokes of the Impressionists and attempted the pointillist technique of the Neo-Impressionists.
